Heavy Wood

Hello, my name is Dan Edwards. I have played guitar now for 30 years. I used to play mostly electric guitar and mostly mainstream pop and rock & roll. About     2 1/2 years ago I started playing my acoustic guitars a lot more and got into alternate tunings. I started listening to players like Phil Keaggy and Chris Proctor. They used alternate tunings a lot but also introduced me to other techniques such as tapping , false harmonics, and different percussive options. This allowed me, a non vocalist to really express my music and really woke me up musically. The guitarists that have inspired me the most and have allowed me to take my music to a totally new realm are Preston Reed and Michael Hedges. Preston Reeds over the top, upside down playing technique has been a major challenge to tackle but on the other hand totally rewarding. I can play rapid fire licks that I could never  master on the electric guitar. Being able to make it sound like there are multiple instruments playing at once is a major goal of this technique and style of playing.  I sometimes  play with a percussionist to add even more rhythm to the music. So what is "Heavy Wood"? Just high energy percussive acoustic music. I hope you will be able to come see us perform in the future. Please check out the "Gigs" page to see any up coming performances. Thanks..... Dan
